good morning. it s monday, december 3rd. i m ayman mohyeldin. i am back after 60 weeks being gone. we have happy to have you back. we begin this week with some sad news. the memorial to celebrate george h.w. bush s life will span from houston to washington and back to his final resting place. president trump sent air force one to houston for what will be called special air mission 41, carrying bush s casket to washington this afternoon. bush will lie in state in the rotunda at the capitol until wednesday morning when a funeral will take place at the national cathedral. then president bush will take a final flight to houston. a funeral train will carry bush
gathered behind the museum itself. near the burial site. they left candles, personal notes, flowers. at the foot of the statue of the president that is here on campus. and they also sang, god bless america, amazing grace, anchors away. i want to show you slides of the actual burial site which is closed right now by the secret service. it s a wooded area. you can t really see it from the road but that s where indeed barbara bush is currently buried as well as their daughter robin. where on thursday, the president will be brought here from houston in a funeral train .
good-bye to ronald reagan and nancy reagan, he turned to me in sort of his low voice, he says that man was very good to me. i can say that today. that man, george bush, was very good to me. jon: william la jeunesse is live in college station, texas with more. william? jon, as you said, this isn t just the location of the presidential library and the president s final resting place. it is also the campus of texas a&m university and the school, the bush school of public policy. over the last two days, we ve spoken to a number of students, why they want to pursue a career in public policy and what they thought of the president. i don t know if you knew this, jon, but the president was a big fan of trains. we have some new video of the diesel locomotive that is going to pull the funeral train from houston on thursday here to college station. it is painted to resemble air force one, the number 41-41, in honor of the president.
there s nobody i can think of that could have drawn those numbers and that diverse a population to say good-bye. ted is able to keep it together at the funeral, but the funeral train with all of the thousands of people who met that train along its way, it was more than ted could bear. and it marked a major change in ted s life. he had always been the younger brother one way or another. all three of the other brothers died through acts of violence, and the baby brother winds up being the family patron. and everybody s looking at ted right now to take over. he s only 36 years old.
my father organized the funeral train, and that was an incredible experience. 227 miles of people on both sides of the tracks with signs. and it was just a very moving experience. i was on that train and just watching these, you know, this extraordinary sight. you had people all carrying these signs that said good-bye, bobby. you had nuns and priests and rabbis and hippies and soldiers.
