Co-op Funeralcare launch dementia memory box project in Bolton

MEMORY boxes are being created by Co-op Funeralcare homes across Bolton to help trigger long-term memory recognition for those living with dementia. Filled with memorabilia such as old newspapers, coins and photographs, they will be taken to care homes across the borough. People with any items which could spark memories are the past are encouraged to donate them to be used in the boxes. It s hoped that those with dementia will engage with the memorabilia, prompting conversations about their lives and to reminisce about the past. The concept was initially thought of by one of Co-op’s Funeral Directors in Scotland when he became aware that many people within his local community were being affected by dementia and Alzheimer’s, which was leading to feelings of loneliness.
