these people are working, farm workers are working from sunrise to sunset, by the time they get home and ask for transportation and pay to go and find they find nothing. it s so terrible. this has been a big, big issue. i thank you for being with us. thank you for doing what you do on a daily basis. it s been great to have you here with us this morning. that wraps up the hour for me. see you tomorrow night on nbc news saturday. thank you for the privilege of your time. andrea mitchell picks up with more news right now. good day, everyone. this is andrea mitchell reports in washington. president biden is trying to show he is taking action in response to the supreme court s abortion decision. it s not clear what he can do without congress. just back from nato, the president will meet with nine democratic governors virtually to talk about steps they can take to protect abortion access. the white house is trying to increase the availability of abortion pills as recent cou
wade and the right to choose the law of the land . you have a tight race right now, one third of the voters still undecided. how do you make an appeal? what sets you apart? this is the only campaign that has generated real enthusiasm, grassroots support as we had our biggest fundraising month in june and we have grassroots donors who made that happen with the average contribution of around $40. the first three fundraising quarters we were in the race we outraised the rest of the democratic party field combined, that is because of the grassroots support we have and the support of leaders from every corner of wisconsin. we have a consistent lead in polling despite being out sent outspent. that is how we will defeat ron johnson. what do you do about the
he s got a strong team there, a solid operation, some of the best operatives in the business. he s sit twonting on $23.5 billf the we know he had one of the strongest fundraising quarters that day after the debate in the is good news for him. i think a lot of people have been speculating, including myself, that there s got to be somebody else who will seep into that top three, top four status of tier one candidates. we re now seeing that person at least in iowa, that person being mayor pete. if you talk to anybody who s been in iowa, reporters covering iowa, campaign operatives from other campaigns, they will tell you that the buzz on the ground, the person who s getting the most buzz in iowa and has been since the debate and even before the debate has been mayor pete. so big news for him and his campaign and, like you said, mika, slow and steady. that s where you want to be as a candidate. that s what we re seeing with mayor pete.
advisers, yes, they may have lost some potential staff to other campaigns or to, for instance, members of congress who are still hiring up in their offices, but that they do have a number of people who have expressed an interest in only working for joe biden. so they re very confident they can put together the campaign team that they need and also that, as the former vice president, somebody with more experience than anyone else in the field, somebody who has campaigned for democrats up and down the ballot in 2018 very actively, he can start running at a later point than most of the other candidates. now, i think we re likely at this point still weeks away, even if he makes a decision in two weeks, it will take another several weeks for his campaign to really launch. at that point you look at, we re going to start the second fundraising quarter, he wants to put up strong fundraising quarters to show he can compete with these other folks. we re still probably a month away. he thinks he
fundraising quarters in house races and senate races across the country, something surprising happened. democratic challengers were out raising house incumbents. it was happening in dozens of races. one, democratic enthusiasm is up, but, two, tlhere really is o low donor republican base any longer because they ve stopped raising money in small amounts. they re totally dependent on these big super pacs to come in and fund their races. they have come to the conclusion that without the support of these families they can t even make a contest in these house and senate races. i think many of them know they re taking a big risk, but they don t see any way to fund their operation without this money coming in. i can t explain it any other way because the american people have already weighed in on what they think about the bill. and, as i said, as it gets implemented it will get even less popular. if your prediction is right and democrats do take the house
