show up. it s usually the people most enthusiastic. the republican running down there is not the world s greatest campaigner. not the world s greatest candidate. donald trump has said very high approval ratings there and is very popular there. i think without a doubt him bringing that kind of enthusiasm can only help. dana: richard, do you think the democrats feel pretty good even this got as close as it is? yes. i think we re very happy where this is. donald trump won this district by 11 points. you re in the county that houses charlotte. how those voters turn out will be the key here. we only lost the race by 905 votes the last time around. with the fund-raising advantage on our side here, i think there s a good shot that we ll pick that up. dana: we love the geography lesson about the border there. richard fowler and charlie hurt, thank you. thank you, dana.
michigan, in iowa, dropping substantial numbers in ohio and pennsylvania and surprisingly, arizona, a state that the president won pretty easily in 2016, you re going to want to make the argument that you ll expand the field. you re going to make the argument that there are other states that you didn t win in 2016 that are realistic targets in 2020. plus, the rnc has a massive fundraising advantage right now. the president has a massive fund raving advantage over whoever is the democratic nominee. they might as well use that money now, see if there are opportunities to expand that field. and we should bear in mind, though, that none of this is really real until we have a democratic candidate. the generic is always better. the candidates matter. campaigns matter. what we re looking at in the fall of 2020 could be very different than the numbers we re seeing today which are pretty bad for the president and his team. so, joel, let me ask you about some of these other states in play a li
one candidate. some troubled performance by vice-president joe biden. the question is where does each candidate now take this? just quickly go around the table. david, what comes next? well, i think some candidates have some momentum here. kamala harris being one. as terri mentioned, she can turn that into a fund-raising advantage. i think pete buttiegieg benefited, same for him. the question is what do the biden folks do now? how do you correct this? does he have to be more public to give people confidence? and how do you deal with the problems with the african-american community that have been opened up as a result of this even though we don t yet know if this has opened up a problem with the african-american community, we ll see some polls. we heard from an african-american male who said he did just fine. we ll see if he has to walk this back. i don t know how he corrects his appearance, you know, seeming to have lost a step in terms of his presentation tonight.
out and vote for him. impeachment, for the republicans polled, it helps them to raise a lot of money. he has raised a lot of money. president trump has raised almost $25 million in the last 24 hours, right? so to put that in perspective. fair to show the context here. joe biden raised the most in the first 24 hours at $6.3 million. huge fund-raising advantage for president trump here. and i get people say moneyy-wise, does it matter? it helps to build the ground operation. that helps you get people out on the field, air commercials and test on facebook. a lot of this is they have been running a good digital strategy since he became president of the united states. they know how to raise money. and the thing is, money buys you it can buy you parts of a campaign. can he sustain this pace? i think he can.
committee, thank you for joining us, appreciate it. i will start with you. what did you think about last night and how will this rollout the different from 2016? thank for having me, it is good timing because i haven t been asleep yet but going on the differences between 2016-2020 donald trump was a significant fundraising disadvantage in 2016 behind hillary clinton, she had used a lot of her influence as secretary of state and being a former candidate for president to have a tremendous fundraising advantage. in 2020 donald trump has that fundraising advantage, the top 5 democrat contenders in their first 24 hours of announcing for president raised a combined total of $15 million. donald trump by the time he announced last night had surpassed that it is going to crush that number and if i m wrong about that i will come back on your show and kevin can shave my head. shannon: don t know if we want to go that far but i was reading the president had raised $100
