As civic-minded attorneys, maybe entering politics is the natural thing to do. But while these two Wemples, both Republicans and both descended from one of Schenectady’s original founders more than three and a half centuries ago, were both immersed into electoral politics, no one ever accused them of being a life-long politician. They were both much more than that.
With the passing last month of former Schenectady police sergeant Ray Wemple, their distant cousin, I decided to look into some of the family’s history, and the trip back was well worth the visit. Here are the facts.

Despite having the highest 7-day average COVID-19 positivity rate in the region, the lowest vaccination percentage of the six rural counties in the Mohawk Valley and a highly publicized virus outbreak at its county jail affecting more than 80 people the Fulton County Public Health Department still struggled to give away doses of the Moderna vaccine Thursday, leaving 60 doses unused.
“We’ve never had leftover vaccine,” Fulton County Director of Public Health Laurel Headwell said after the end of her department’s Point of Distribution [POD] vaccine clinic, held at Fulton-Montgomery Community College on Thursday.

Saratoga County man admits making ghost guns

ALBANY - A Saratoga County man pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiring to deal, possess, transfer and make unregistered firearms, and to distributing methamphetamine, federal authorities said.
Christopher Montano, 36, of Edinburg, admitted that between August and October 2019, he, along with Michael Castelluccio of Fultonville, conspired to build and sell firearms from component parts ordered online. These firearms are commonly known as “ghost guns” because they do not have serial numbers, which makes them difficult for law enforcement to trace, the U.S. Attorney s office said.
Montano admitted to conspiring to have and transfer barrels less than 16 inches long, and admitted to doing so without having filed an application with or received approval from the Treasury Department, or paying the tax required by federal law.
