Taipei braces for 5th coldest New Year s Eve on record

Taipei, Dec. 31 (CNA) Taipei saw its fifth coldest New Year s Eve on record Thursday, with the capital registering a temperature of 7.6 degrees Celsius, the same as in 2004, according to the nation s Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
Since the weather station was established in Taipei City more than 100 years ago, the lowest temperature recorded in the city on New Year s Eve was in 1960, with a temperature of 3.2 degrees, followed by 4.2 degrees in 1973, 5.5 degrees in 1917, 7.2 degrees in 1906 and 7.6 degrees in 2004, CWB forecaster Liu Pei-teng (劉沛滕) told CNA.
As of Thursday, Lu said that the weather station on Fugui Cape, New Taipei City, recorded a temperature of 4.3 degrees from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m., the coldest among the 25 weather stations in low-altitude areas where the season s lows were recorded.

Taipei, Dec. 30 (CNA) Low-lying areas across Taiwan on Wednesday recorded their lowest temperatures this winter, with the arrival of a cold front, and the mercury is expected to drop further in the early hours of Thursday, according to the Central Weather Bureau (CWB).
The weather station in Fugui Cape, New Taipei, registered a temperature of 7.7 degrees Celsius at 5 p.m. Wednesday, the coldest among the 18 weather stations in low-altitude areas where the season s lows were recorded, CWB forecaster Lin Ting-yi (林定宜) said.
