of the florida coast of that this is sanibel island, an island decimated by hurricane ian. right now there s no way to get help in to sanibel. the only bridge that connected the island to the mainland, it s a long causeway, it s caved in. so there s no way to get on or off the island unless you travel by boat. and that s been incredibly difficult for anyone to do. and that loss right now spans the florida coast. i ll show you cape coral. our bill weir was here today. this is a picture he took. you can see home after home totally destroyed and flooded. the ones that are still standing, you can see siding ripped off. at one point ian s winds were 155 miles an hour. we re going to have much more from bill weir in a moment. not far from where he took those images, ft. myers beach, striking images of what is left. not much. the beach community 48 hours ago looked like that. now, take a look at this. estero boulevard, 24 hours later. a restaurant called the whale surrounded by debr
russia in 2014 that that may end up kbg the target. but frankly we could be in for surprises here. certainly ukraine has clear been doing precision strikes on parts of russian infrastructure in occupied areas particularly in the kherson area along the dnipro river and not far from where i m standing in zaporizhzhia and also, too, in crimea. hitting an enormous fuel depo there. massive fire that burned overnight. a lot of efforts taken just to put that fire out. suggestions, too, that tonight we may be seeing more strikes in various parts of the country, possibly by russian aviation as well. this increased tension building certainly over the past week, perhaps the preclude to the counteroffensive or maybe even its early stages. for russia s part, though, as you said, a public series of comments by evgeni prigozhin, one of the more well known military figures in russia, head of the wagner mercenary group, so much part of the brutal fight
careful not to gloat, not to make any comments about some of these events that have taken place inside the russian territory. we remember a couple weeks ago there were a couple helicopters apparently that shot some missiles and blew up a fuel depo. and again, the ukrainians were very careful. they didn t confirm or deny. that s the wise thing. it s kind of like our boasts about using and providing intelligence. probably not a good idea. the ukrainians probably have a better way to do it of just not confirming or denying. erin burnett spoke to the mayor of kyiv earlier. he s convinced that putin s main target is still the ukrainian capital. what do you see as putin s end game here? don, i think putin s end game is controlling ukraine one way
there was a sound of a plane, a jet. and then came at least five loud explosions over a period of time. so, what that is we don t know. at this point. the assumption would be some kind of air strike not far from here. we re working to confirm that at this point. there have been five loud explosions heard. a warning of an incoming air strike that was 45 minutes ago. maybe hearing that play out right now. it has been weeks since lviv has been targeted by russian forces. when it was, it was on the out skirt of the city. they hit a fuel depo and some kind of installation. close to the border with poland. this is an area which is spared the worst of the fighting. by the russian forces. there is concern that maybe as the military shipments come in from the west, coming by the polish border through the part of the ukraine, they there would be some kinds of strikes being carried out. at this point we don t know. this is all still up in the air.
