FRUITLAND â Payette County Ambulance Director Rick Funk presented the Ambulance Department report for April to the Fruitland City Council at its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday.
Funk said the month was a âsuper busyâ one and crews were ârun ragged out thereâ and âdid a really good job.â
In terms of emergency calls related to the COVID-19 pandemic, he said that he noticed a shift.
âItâs funny, theyâve all changed. Theyâre not so much COVID anymore and weâre starting to see flu again and that kind of stuff, so yeah,â Funk said.
He went on to explain how he expected to see âthese things go up and downâ as businesses start to open back up again.
FRUITLAND â Fruitland Chief of Police J.D. Huff presented his report to the Fruitland City Council and noted to them that he made âsome marks on his initial police report.â
Of the marks he made, Huff said one of those is 59 controlled substance citings, but not of these are necessarily arrests.
He said that another thing he âshould haveÂ
Huff stated that he had 9 DUI blood draws and all of those blood kits had to be sent to the state police.
âA lot of people driving under the influence of drugs, not so much alcohol,â said Huff.
He said that âmore and moreâ people are using âprescription drugsâ and âcontrolled substancesâ in Fruitland and âour dogs are sniffing âem out left and right.â

An infrastructure idea that was floated at a work session of the Ontario City Council on April 8 is now being backed by a plea from the council to lawmakers for help in funding the project. That plea is in the form of a letter to Gov. Kate Brown, and several Oregon, Idaho and U.S. representatives and senators.
That letter was brought up during the second regular meeting of the City Council on April 27, continuing the idea of a second bridge connecting Ontario and Fruitland, by means of extending Ontarioâs Southeast 18th Avenue to an Interstate 84 overpass into Fruitland.

We may not have to worry about a stuck cargo ship on the Snake River blocking trade traffic locally and to our region, but it was that recent situation in the Suez Canal that got Mayor Riley Hill thinking outside the box about access into Ontario. And after mulling it over as a group, the council decided to have Ontario Community Development Director Dan Cummings look into the transportation master plan to see what it would take to get another route into Ontario.
This and other infrastructure projects topped a long list of discussion and action items at the Ontario City Councilâs work session on April 8.
