republicans will than targeting senator bill nelson of florida in the 2012 election and a new poll gives an early peek to nelson s re-election chances. our cnn political editor mark preston is here with that story. talk about a wake-up call for senator bill nelson down in florida. a new quinnipiac university poll out in the last couple of hours spells trouble for him. right now his approval rating according to this new q-poll at 45%. below 50%. probably even more troubling is the fact that 43% of floridians believe he should be re-elected. again, below the 50% mark. he has plenty of time to make it up and, of course, he runs for election the next couple of years but this is you will what we call a wake-up call for incumbent politicians. right now, we do not have a republican fronts runner down in
with his wife while she rehabilitates in houston. meanwhile, jared loughner has pleaded not guilty to charges that he tried to kill giffords and two of her aides. making his second court appearance monday, loughner apparently smiled through most of the proceeding. when asked if there were any doubts about loughner s ability to understand the charges, his lawyers gave no hint of the way they plan to deficit the 22-year-old saying only they are not raising any issues at this time. more charges are expected to be filed, some of which may carry the death penalty. former white house chief of staff rahm emanuel appealing an illinois court s ruling that he does not meet the residency requirement to run for mayor of chicago. this was a stunner yesterday. by a 2-1 vote, the panel decided that emanuel s name should be taken off of last month s ballot, delivering a shocking blow to the race s fronts runner. he s up by some 20 points in polls. at issue is whether emanuel has been a resident of c
