It was the day B.C. effectively put in place a pandemic lockdown. Days later, Ashton, 81, became sick, but he didn’t develop what are now known as COVID symptoms. There was no tightness in his chest or sore throat. But he was extremely fatigued, vomiting and couldn’t keep down liquids or food. Ten days into his illness, Ashton went to the emergency department at Royal Jubilee Hospital, but was sent home because he didn’t have typical symptoms. He wasn’t tested for COVID-19 at the hospital, nor was he rehydrated. “I was very upset about that, actually,” said his wife, Andrea Ashton, 79.
