weren t related. it sends two messages. you can come after us and try to kill us, but we are not going to sit here and we are not going to take it. this is a war, we are going to come you have a, we ll find you wherever you are and we ll get. this is part of the mess and. i hope it s this is part of the message. jane: i know you think pakistan is key to this war. it is the key to the war. you want the people caught between the too and you want to smash them. the pakistanis have done a great job the past few months to go in and clean up some of these areas. obviously the frontier areas are difficult to deal with. but you can tell they are actually taking action and they are having some effect. jane: this is something we need to look at long term going forward. make no mistake about this, this is a generational war. you are seeing it in terms of
phone calls, all these sorts of things led to the capture of these guys. so, you know, unless they have very, very good operational security, the cities are really not a particularly safe haven. i think the arrest today of this american, he may be adam gadahn, may not be, demonstrates that the pakistani intelligence agencies continue to be pretty proactive with the help of the united states to find both members of the taliban and al qaeda. if a lot of these al qaeda and taliban operatives, peter, are leaving the frontier areas for the city because as you said the drone program there which has launched so many attacks we re going to get you on later on this week to talk about all of that for us does it logically follow that osama bin laden may not be in the tribal areas anymore eater? that s an interesting question, john. i think he is in or around the tribal areas. after all this is one of the most recognizable human beings in the world. i don t think they would take the risk t
relationship, create more transparency. i believe that the pakistanis would be well served if they put a commission in place to investigate the bin laden situation. if they worked with us to fully implement the kerry/luger domestic aid package with the strictures in place, and going after the other elements that are up to mischief in kashmir and in the frontier areas of afghanistan and pakistan as well. so i think we have leverage here. but it is a very delicate time in our relationship with the pakistanis. let me say one other thing, i don t think the major leadership in the country are acting as arsonists. they want to be firemen, but clearly there are some in the isi and in pakistani positions of influence who have been arsonists in promoting this war and conflict in afghanistan. and, senator, what do we know about bin laden and the state of play?
