A map released last week by Amtrak shows a proposed new line of rail service between Cheyenne and Pueblo, which could add a transportation solution that local leaders are on board for.
The new line would connect Front Range communities, stopping in Cheyenne, Wyoming, Fort Collins, Denver, Colorado Springs and Pueblo, creating a transportation spine along with Interstate 25 that could serve the majority of Colorado’s population.
Amtrak revealed the “Connect Us” map essentially in tandem with President Joe Biden’s $2 trillion infrastructure plan, which would allocate $80 billion for passenger and freight railway improvements.
“Amtrak has a bold vision to bring energy-efficient, world-class intercity rail service to up to 160 new communities across the nation, as we also invest in our fleet and stations across the U.S.,” Amtrak CEO Bill Flynn said in a statement. “With this federal investment, Amtrak will create jobs and improve equity across citi
Amtrak’s rail service connecting Glenwood Springs to Denver could potentially intersect with a new rail line connecting Cheyenne, Wyoming to Pueblo if President Joe Biden’s proposed infrastructure plan is approved by Congress.
Biden’s American Jobs Plan allocates $80 million in funding to address Amtrak’s repair backlog, modernize the high traffic Northeast Corridor, improve existing corridors and connect new city pairs; and enhance grant and loan programs that support passenger and freight rail safety, efficiency, and electrification. The Colorado Department of Transportation would have a say in which service lines would receive those federal funds, according to Amtrak spokesman Marcus Magliari.
Colorado appears poised to reap some of the benefits from the sprawling $2 trillion infrastructure proposal unveiled by President Joe Biden last week.
The president on Wednesday unveiled details of the package in an address at a carpenters union training center in Pittsburgh, touting it as one that “people are going to look back and say this is the moment when America won the future.”
“It’s a once-in-a-generation investment in America unlike anything we’ve seen or done since we built the interstate highway system and the space race decades ago,” he said. “In fact, it’s the largest American jobs investment since World War II. It will create millions of jobs, good-paying jobs.”

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado â President Biden s infrastructure legislation would benefit plans to build a commuter rail service along Colorado s Front Range. The $2.2 trillion American Jobs Plan includes $80 billion specifically for rail improvements.
The CEO of Amtrak, Bill Flynn, said in a news release that the legislation will help his company rebuild and improve its national rail network. Amtrak released a 15-year plan to repair, upgrade and expand passenger rail service to 160 new communities including a new service route connecting Pueblo to Cheyenne, Wyoming. With this federal investment, Amtrak will create jobs and improve equity across cities, regions, and the entire country â and we are ready to deliver, Flynn said.
