[inaudible conversations] Thea Jim Webb today officially withdrew as a candidate for the democratic president ial nomination at a press conference at the National Press club. He did however leave the door open for possible independent run. Accept my views on many issues are not compatible with the power structure of the nominating base of the Democratic Party. That party is filled with millions of dedicated hardworking americans but its hierarchy is not comfortable with many of the policies that i have laid forth and frankly im not comfortable with many of theirs. For this reason i am withdrawing from any consideration of being a Democratic Party nominee for the presidency. This does not reduce in any way my concerns were the challenges facing our country. My belief that i can provide the best leadership in order to meet these challenges or my intentions to remain fully engaged in the debates that are facing us. How
You arrived. I think you were age 29. Oh, my god. You were 29 and two days early from being eligible as United States senator. And through all those years weve worked together, weve been dear friends. Weve been a part of the Progressive Network of america. And when you were elected Vice President , we talked about my experience with the office and youve taken the vice presidency a big step forward. Partly because of [ applause ] aided by your experience in the senate as sometimes chairman of the Judiciary Committee he and the Foreign Relations committee. You knew your stuff. They knew and liked you, and ive enjoyed watching how this all worked out for the betterment of the obama administration. You know all these things. Joe, i love you, and were so glad its mutual. Thank you. Were going to have a great conversation about the vice presidency. It has a long history in this country, as you know. It hasnt always been what it is today. Unfortunately, it was a constitutional after thought.
