Juneau artist Lily Hope has been awarded the 2023 Marie Darlin Prize. The $5,000 Marie Darlin Prize is administered through the Juneau-Douglas City Museum (JDCM) and is awarded annually to an individual or collaboration whose work, through a combination of vision and shared sense of community, expresses a regional commitment to women’s rights, social history, or community advocacy. The Friends of the Juneau-Douglas City Museum (FOJDCM) and the Juneau Community Foundation (JCF) support the funding for the prize. Lily Hope was chosen to receive this prize because of her outstanding body of work which expresses a regional commitment to social and cultural history.
A reception that includes cookies and hot cocoa will be held Monday from 3 to 4 pm.
It will be served at the City Museum s side door.
The light exhibit was designed by Bill Conrow and is sponsored by the IBEW 1547 Juneau Unit, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, ALCAN Electrical & Engineering and the Friends of the Juneau-Douglas City Museum.
The lights were hung by employees from CBJ Community Development, CBJ Parks and Recreation, and the Zach Gordon Youth Employment in the Parks work crew.
The lights will be lit until March.
The City Museum joins the Juneau Downtown Business Association s Light up Juneau for the Holidays, and the Alaska Department of Health and Social Services Bring Back the Light, a statewide celebration that occurs this Sunday at 5 pm.
