about to get under a from other parents seeking damages. there s a lot of stuff happening in the background for this and just adding to the emotional toll that these guys have experienced. it s hard to imagine. it is really. bryn, thank you so much. a town near uvalde, texas, has banned an event, the city council revoked an agreement to host friends of nra fund-raiser in a city-owned facility where an ar-15 was to be ralphed. this after hearing emotional pleas from parents of children killed in the school massacre just back in may. cnn s rosa flores joins us live from houston. rosa. reporter: well, john, good morning. this is very painful for the families, but i want to start with this, because it s very important for the families as well. one of the families of the victims and the community overall in uvalde, they re pro-gun, they are gun owners. what they re against are
assault-style rifles. the same type of rifle that was used to massacre 19 children and two teachers in uvalde. but here s the backdrop of this. friends of nra were organizing an event in hondo, texas just down the road from uvalde. about 40 miles. they were going to rent a venue from the city for the event. and the flier had an assault-style rifle, an ar-15, on the page of the flier. and that was the big ralph item that was going to be part of this event. this, of course, didn t sit well with the families in uvalde. so they packed city council in hondo, texas, demanding that the city revoke its agreement with friends of nra. take a look. it s a slap in the face to all of uvalde, especially the ones who lost a loved one, some of us being here today. but an even harder slap in the face is the ar-15 if you donate $5,000 to the nra.

officials. the investigative reporter behind this piece from the washington post, beth ryan hart. this is amazing. how did you find out about these gun raffles? i got an email from a parent in kentucky who had come across a flier for friends of nra and they were hosting a gun raffle at her child s school and this woman was particularly upset because there had been a mass shooting just 80 miles away at another school in kentucky. so we wrote to me because she saw that we had written some stories and she said what can you do about this. and i went from there. so explain how all these raffles work. so friends of nra is sort of the grass roots fundraising program of the nra foundation, the charitable arm of the nra. and their events are held all
