Citing safety concerns, La Jolla Recreation Center director Nicholas Volpe asked the La Jolla Community Recreation Group, the center’s advisory board, to assist with funding a new weight room floor.
This year, as San Diego started to emerge from its COVID-19 cave with the introduction of vaccines and return to in-person events, La Jollans were hard at work behind the scenes to make changes for the community as it transitions to its next (hopefully post-COVID) stage.
After years of planning and months of community review, plans to vacate part of Cuvier Street to help make way for a La Jolla Recreation Center renovation got the La Jolla Community Planning Association’s approval during its Nov. 4 meeting online.
Nicholas Volpe previously was with the Pacific Beach Rec Center. His predecessor, Jesse DeLille, was promoted within the San Diego Parks & Recreation Department.
