HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - In a normal year, more than 70,000 people pass through Waialae Country Club for the Sony Open. Huge crowds throughout the course are a common sight.
But this isnât a normal year.
Instead, the pandemic means no gallery and no vendors. It also took much more work to get the event up and running compared to previous tourneys.

HONOLULU, Hawaii (HawaiiNewsNow) - The 2021 Sony Open is set to start this week at the Waialae Country Club, but it will look a lot different from years past.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, there will be no in-person fan attendance in Waialae, to discourage large gatherings and safeguard the health of the golfers and event staff.
