good morning and welcome to way too early on this friday, january 20th. i m jonathan lemire. thanks for joining us. the treasury department now is forced to take extraordinary measures so the government can continue paying its bills. in a letter to congressional leadership yesterday, treasury secretary janet yellen confirmed the country will be able to meet its obligations until at least june 5th. until then treasury will sell investments to raise cash and not reinvest in some retirement funds to save money and, therefore, not create new debt. this ginkgos congress a deadline of just 136 days to craft legislation to raise the country s debt ceiling before the united states officially defaults. senate minority leader mitch mcconnell noted the debt ceiling legislation has been completed in the past and believes congress will be able to reach an agreement once again.
