Institute discloses how foreigners encroach on space, sell fish to Nigerians

Invites investors into fishing vessels Stakeholders in the marine and fisheries industry are seeking the intervention of the Federal Government to ban the importation of fish into the country while calling on investors to explore opportunities in the fishing space. x   They lamented the lack of adequate vessels in the Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR), saying this had made the seaport porous and open to illicit businesses by foreigners.   This was disclosed during the meeting of the governing board of NIOMR and the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology (FCF&MT), held in Lagos recently.    They maintained that foreigners from Mali, Senegal, among others, were infiltrating Nigeria’s fishing space, which had resulted in the loss of revenue and jobs for the citizens.

The World s Supply of Mackerel Is on the Move

Link Copied The Northeast Atlantic mackerel is a small fish with grey or greenish-blue scales and tigerlike black stripes from mouth to tail. Lacking a swim bladder the gas-filled organ that helps most fish move up and down in the water the mackerel would sink and die if it ever stopped. So it is always on the move, looking for plankton, crustaceans, and other small fish. It travels in shoals that can be more than 100 feet deep and 600 feet wide, and sometimes, when this great nomadic army catches a glimmer of light, it can resemble an underwater version of the northern lights.
