The Eastern Cape department of health’s financial woes continue unabated, with its poor financial performance laid bare in its latest annual report. Tabled in the provincial legislature last week, the report shows that the department continues struggling to manage its finances relating to its spending on goods and services.
Four Eastern Cape heads of department have been shunted from their positions in a move by the provincial government to crack the whip on non-performance.The Daily Dispatch can confirm that the provincial head of the department of health,Dr Rolene Wagner, transport’s Mzi Mafani, co-operative governance and traditional affairs’ Andile Fani and human settlements’ Tabisa Poswa have been moved from their positions.
It was premature to speak about placing the struggling Eastern Cape health department under administration, health minister Joe Phaahla said. Phaahla said he had seen improvements in the province and would assist it to deal with its financial woes.
