LAS CRUCES – Bingo! Alma’s Kitchen, formerly housed in the parish hall of St. Genevieve’s Catholic Church, will make its new home on the New Mexico State University campus in Frenger Food Court.
Alma’s Kitchen has been run out of the parish hall kitchen for 10 years. Arik Ruiz, Alma’s son, has been the owner for four years, since his mother retired. He and his Mexican food have become popular among bingo players who used to frequent the hall before it closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since March, Ruiz’s restaurant has been closed. To make ends meet, he started delivering groceries through Instacart and food deliveries through OrangeCrate. Meanwhile, he still tries to keep in touch with his elderly customer base, making sure they have everything they need while the novel coronavirus runs rampant throughout the county.
