Malian director Souleymane Cissé, one of Africa’s boldest and most pioneering auteurs, widely acknowledged as one of the greatest African filmmakers of all time, was conferred this year’s Carrosse d’Or (the Golden Coach) award at the 76th Cannes Film Festival.
