More than two dozen fire departments responded to a fire Saturday morning that left a key ambulance facility in ruins. Flames had already engulfed the Emergency Ambulance Service building at 30 Commercial St., by the time first responders arrived just after 11 a.m. The Freeport Fire Department joined 26 other departments and 150 personnel on the efforts to extinguish the flames.
Twenty fire departments and 125 firefighters battled the fire at 30 Commercial St. in Freeport, which houses the Emergency Ambulance Service, according to the Nassau County chief fire marshal.
Ethan Walz, 26, and his roommate Alex Zierden, 28, woke up in the middle of the night Thursday to find smoke coming from the basement of their home. The two were able to evacuate the home safely with their two dogs.
