South Dakota Chislic Festival set to return after COVID-19 canceled last year’s event Stephen Perez, Sioux Falls Argus Leader © Briana Sanchez / Argus Leader Cowboy Chislic owners Dan and Jaci Pastian make their last batch of chislic at the South Dakota Chislic Festival Saturday, July 28, in Freeman. The South Dakota Chislic Festival is returning this summer after last year’s festival was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The festival in Freeman will return on July 31 for their third year, according to an event post on Facebook. The inaugural year of the festival in 2018 drew crowds of more than 8,000 people to the city, over four times as many as anticipated.
