With the model code of conduct coming into force, the Uttar Pradesh food safety commissioner on Saturday said that free food packets with photos of the prime minister and chief minister are not to be distributed at fair price shops.

KOTA: Distribution of free food packets from ‘Vasundhara Jan Rasoi’ launched three days ago here is being drawn into a political quagmire. The scheme was launched in the name of state’s former chief minister and BJP’s national vice-president Vasundhara Raje by her confidante, ex-MLA Prahlad Gunjal.
Absence of photos and names of top party leaders including that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the banner that is displayed at Vasundhara Jan Rasoi is enough to attract speculation from different quarters.
“On Raje’s call, I launched it on May 28 where we distributed free food packets in slum areas and villages. A day later, Raje’s supporters started Vasundhara Jan Rasoi in several districts,” said BJP ex-MLA Gunjal.
