When To Pursue Residential Treatments
Many parents might ask themselves when might it be time to seek out and pursue a residential program for their child.
If a child repeatedly displays reckless behavior, disobeys the parental boundaries, or runs away from home it can be a helpful indicator to obtain information on types of programs best for their situation.
Furthermore, instances where intensive outpatient programs (IOP) seem to not be offering enough containment for a child’s safety can also be an indicator to look at other types of care facilities and programs.
Treat and Guide, never “fix”
A residential program is not a shortcut or answer to “fix” a child. Remember that parents and guardians need to be present for their children. Even if a child might show to be causing the disruptions in a situation, parents can be just as a part of the problem as they are part of the solution.
