SVDP SF remains hard at work for the poor

“Martha exemplifies the spirit of service before self,” said SVDP executive director, Shari Woolridge. Catholic San Francisco April 6, 2021 The St. Vincent de Paul Society was founded in 1833 Paris with a mission to help the poor face-to-face. In no small coincidence, founder Frederic Ozanam, beatified in 1997 by St. John Paul II, began the society while Paris was in the grips of a cholera epidemic just as Vincentians in the 22 conferences of the San Francisco Council of SVDP are ministering today within the constraints of COVID-19. SVDP-SF announced the election of new president Joe Stark on March 26, 2021. Stark comes to the office as a Vincentian from St. Gabriel Parish SVDP conference and the conference at Laguna Honda Hospital. A 1972 graduate of St. Ignatius College Prep, he holds an undergraduate degree as well as an MBA from San Francisco State University.
