gas fired at demonstrators at this intersection up here at pennsylvania and north. earlier this afternoon. there was some tension between police and protesters when they apprehended a man. but largely, aside from those two incidents, it has been largely peaceful. these protesters are on the move and again, calling for justice for freddie gray. all eyes pointing to friday when the police send that report to prosecutors on what exactly happened to freddie gray on april 12th. hands up. don t shoot! hands up, don t shoot! they ll probably walk several more intersections where they started this rally this afternoon. again, we have less than two hours until darkness hits. we have about four hours until the curfew is put into effect. everything looks peaceful now after last night with all the ransacking the looting, the street fires, the hundreds of arrest. 20 officers injured. this is going to be a very tense situation in a couple of hours
baltimore. what we are seeing in this latest american city is the latest local manifestation of what is turning out to be a national crisis. it began earlier this month with that arrest of freddie gray on april 12th. we have video of that. i m not going to play it over and over again as background material. it is short. this was april 12th. presence on the streets already here in baltimore. in anticipation of that. there s some concern that there might be chaos in the streets or an attempt to shut baltimore down. but the fact of the matter is all of the protests have been peaceful victor throughout the week for the most part a few scattered sporadic incidents. and most people are expecting things to remain peaceful here. of course we will cover those protests as they happen throughout the day and continue to follow the search for answers in freddie gray s death. joe johns in baltimore. thanks. we need to point out the protesters aren t the only ones demanding answers about what exactly happened to freddie gray on april 12th. so is the city s mayor. look at this. i still want to know why the policies and the procedures for transport were not followed. i still want to know why none of the officers called for immediate medical assistance
today may be the first opportunity for investigators to question the police who arrested freddie gray on april 12th and apparently inexplicably may have injured him so badly that he died one week later. the question begins with, why mr. gray was stopped to begin with. and baltimore s mayor is among those waiting for answers. i know what probable cause is. i haven t heard of probable cause in this case yet. that s one of the questions that i want answered. i know that having a knife is not necessarily probable cause for a stop or an arrest. that s why i have significant questions about what happened and that s why i m determined to get to the bottom of it. i m joined now by cedric alexander the head of public safety in dekalb county, georgia, president of the national organization of black law enforcement executives and joining me in new york is harry houk, the former nypd detective
