» Whatcom County Jail worker alleges racial discrimination

By Joe Teehan July 22, 2021 1:54 pm KGMI BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A mental health professional claims that Whatcom County, the Sheriff’s Department and his employer discriminated against him because he is Black. Fred A. Pulphus of Custer has filed a lawsuit that states Compass Health recruited him for a position at the Whatcom County Jail in 2018 because of his decades of experience working with youth in the Whatcom County criminal justice system. The Everett based company provides mental and behavioral health services to the jail. Pulphus alleges in the suit that Compass personnel “demeaned, ignored, sidelined and spoke aggressively toward him” because of his race.
