As investigators continue trying to figure out why six women developed rare blood clots after getting the Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine, doctors are reinforcing the need to wear a mask and socially distance, even after being fully vaccinated.
That s because none of the vaccines provide 100% protection. No vaccine does. Underlying health conditions can play a role.
To be clear, the number of overall breakthrough cases is very small, 5,800 out of 77 million fully vaccinated people. Of those 5,800 people, 74 died.
Dr. Fred Venditti, the hospital general director at Albany Med, drives home the vaccine is saving lives.
He notes not only is the likelihood much lower that you will get the virus if you re vaccinated, but if you do, you likely won t be as ill.
