Lancaster Town Manager retiring after 41 years
March 10, 2021LANCASTER It was 41 years ago, that Lancaster Town Manager Ed Samson began his service to the town. In 1979, he joined the Police Department and worked his way through the ranks to eventually become Police Chief. In 2006, Samson decided to take on the role as Town Manager and has been in that role ever since.
In regard to his retirement, the charismatic Samson said, I was always told, you ll know when it s time. I feel it s time. Relaying that he has no plans for the immediate future, more hunting and fishing will be on the to do list.
Man killed in Dalton shooting showed signs of escalation
January 06, 2021DALTON On Dec. 23, the town of Dalton and the surrounding area was alerted to an incident that took place at approximately nine p.m. Sirens were heard blaring from miles away and scanners went from muddled fuzz to constant communication. As details unfolded, neighbors reached out to neighbors to make sure everyone involved or living in close proximity to the scene was safe.
Within mere hours, we learned that New Hampshire State Trooper Matthew Merrill was shot on scene and was transported to the closest hospital. Currently, Merrill is in stable condition.
Man in shooting had arrests, police concerned about behavior

CONCORD, N.H. (AP) A man who died during a shooting with a state trooper worked as a chemical engineer for many years, but also had an arrest record on various driving and drug offenses and authorities were concerned about his recent behavior.
Mark Clermont, 45, of Whitefield, New Hampshire, died Dec. 23. The attorney general’s office said Trooper Matthew Merrill stopped a vehicle driven by Clermont in Dalton and there was an exchange of gunfire. Clermont was armed with a rifle and a handgun. Merrill is recovering in the hospital from gunshot wounds. The shooting is under investigation.
