Redevelopment plans for the Union Pier site along the Cooper River in downtown Charleston had included a cruise ship terminal, but the mayor wants it cut out.
Union Pier’s new planning team is doing a lot of listening as it works to take the future of the 70-acre area in a new direction. They held the first round of public workshops Jan. 24 and Jan. 25 for what the team is calling “a reset” for the development.
The big takeaway from Union Pier feedback sessions: Charlestonians want water access. Other desires include green space, a marina and modestly sized structures.
