Very rightly,CM Datuk Seri Hajiji has been paying a lot of attention to overhaul the GLCs. He has issued several statements on GLCs, the latest of which are on 4th and 9th July 2022. His latest is showing his increasing concern. He now expects GLCs not to enter any lopsided agreements. Of the 250 GLCs, only a few can produce creditable performance. Historically, most GLCs have become drags, hindrances, not assets to our economic development. There were good under TS Harris, then went downhill. TS Musa managed to restore many of them
DSP Hajiji’s key note address at SIBES [Sabah International Business & Economic Summit] on 17th January 2022 has spurred substantial interest among some investors and many Sabahans, especially in the business community. It is like the first fresh spring wind cleansing away the stale air of Sabah’s 30 plus years of economic stagnancy.
Those interested can read the most pertinent part “Bringing Sabah into the next decade”. Outstanding feature is his focus on a string of innovative initiatives in investments/industries like
[a] the emphasis on “up the value chain” in agriculture, aquaculture and fishery with special focus on production, harvesting, processing and marketing. Fishery has vast exciting potentials as Sabah has retrieved the approval authority over deep sea fishing licencing from KL. A high yield hybrid coconut industry has already begun with initial investment of RM200m and more than 4,000 jobs expected.
[b] Big hap
2021 is over. Much already done to reset Sabah’s economy, lots more to do to put Sabah back to long term stable economic growth after decades in limbo in 2022

MY heartiest congratulations to Sabah Foundation and Merica Group for their JV company Gerak Saga Sdn Bhd having been awarded 2 covetous certificates
[a] Malaysian Timber Certification Scheme Forest Management Certification (MTCS-FMC) and
[b] the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Forest Management/Chain of Custody Certification.
These 2 awards are important in many significant ways because all the logs down to all finished products will be acceptable in the world, meaning worldwide market access.
Now that Gerak Saga has pathed the way, I hope other Sabah ITP companies will be encouraged to seek same recognitions. For more information, please access to Headline news in Daily Express on 24 June 2021
