Over the years, the Denver Broncos have had 15 general managers, including the most recent title-holder, George Paton. Since 1961, Denver has selected 705 players, and each of these internal team leaders has had his preference when it comes to the AFL/NFL Draft.

Saban has been a controversial figurehead in Broncos history, earning the nickname Half a loaf Lou because of his comments after the Broncos tied Miami 10-10 in 1971 in the middle of the Don Shula-led Dolphin dynasty. After the game, Saban remarked, half a loaf is better than none. Eight games later, Saban was fired from his dual role.
