Democrats now revisiting these two bills that were originally introduced in august, designed to not only protect Robert Mueller but potentially other special counsels in the future. Both of these bills make it so that only the attorney, a nonrecused attorney general, could fire the special counsel. Theoretically if they were to pass, jeff session, who recused himself from the russia investigation, wouldnt be able to fire the special counsel. The biggest difference between the two bills is that one of them required the attorney general would have to get approval from a threejudge panel before firing the special counsel. The other makes it so that if fired, the special counsel could then dispute the firing before a threejudge panel as well.
