a freak snowstorm already blanketing the midwest. you can t believe it. we can tell you it will be financially devastating to ranchers. we re going to tell you about that next. and kerry and karzai, america and afghanistan, and the negotiation over our u.s. troops staying there after next year. plus, republicans on capitol hill are behind closed doors. looking for a way out of their deadlock with the senate and the white house. every day, that house republicans attempt to get the president to come to the table and really negotiate a path forward for our future fiscal sanity.
heard anything since. she s an experienced hiker. that s correct. both she and her how experienced? they go on back country trips every year for several weeks at a time. last year they were in the sierras for 12 days or something. they met these conditions before and usually were you aware of this trip before she went. y he. how long were they planning to be out. i believe it was for a week or more than a week. clearly they weren t expecting to be iced over with whiteout conditions. no. and nearing hypothermia. how all a sudden did everything change t. seems like a freak snowstorm that must be related to the heavy rains and flooding that s going on now. you ve been in touch with the rocky mountain national police forest rangers. the park rangers, yes. what have they said? they said at first that they needed a 911 call and clearly that probably wasn t going to happen because of all the flooding going on and all the other emergencies going on. they said
sandy may be helping to refocus political and popular attention to the problem. whether or not that attention will sustain after a long cleanup is over is unclear that was jennifer morgan, the director of climate and energy problem for world energy institute. we have very short memories, right? it s not just as it relates to climate change. it relates to a lot of things. i think the success of storms, the storms we had last year, hurricane irene caused a lot of damage here. we had the freak snowstorm. i think a lot of this is sort of solidifying in people s minds that something is happening, you know, whether or not any particular storm, it has the fingerprint of climate change on it, we don t know. but it s certainly what i think it was oppenheimer in the piece said it s a teachable moment in a lot of ways, no matter where the storm came from. but it s only teachable if people want to learn. people want to listen. thank you very much. sure. it s a great piece. i so suggest
