China emerged victorious in the FIDE World Youth U16 Olympiad held in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. The team dominated the competition, securing an impressive 17 out of 18 match points. The FIDE World Youth Olympiad! It often gets overshadowed by the World Cup, but is actually one of the bigger tournaments at the youth level. This year, it’s being hosted in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. 63 teams from all around the world are competing, each with four young players. Report by Bram Klapwijk.
Last week the 25th Hoogeveen Chess Festival celebrated chess again - with matches and tournaments. Local hero Lucas von Foreest won his match against Luke McShane and Daniel Dardha from Belgium won his match against Max Warmerdam. A group of six players unsuccessfully filed legal proceedings against the Dutch Chess Federation and the municipality of Hoogeveen. The players objected to a requirement at the upcoming Dutch championships to either show a corona pass or otherwise be tested daily, which they claim will disturb them too.
