The Bureau of Meteorology says thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rains that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding in Scone, Armidale, Tamworth, Gunnedah, Moree and Narrabri.
Showers and storms are also forecast for the Sydney area, due to intensify in the coming days.

Flood-affected communities will begin a mammoth clean up this morning, as waters recede and reveal the damage.
In low-lying areas, including Lismore, flood waters remain over some roads. The town saw 92mm of rainfall in just two hours with a flood warning still in place for the Wilsons River.
Around 40mm of rain could fall today.
Authorities say the conditions have not been seen since Cyclone Debbie in 2017.
An evacuation order is in place for Condong, Tumbulgum, Tygalah and surrounding areas along the Tweed River.
The SES says it s the final flood warning for the Tweed, with waters likely to begin receding today allowing for a clearer picture of the damage below.
A series of minor flood warnings have been issued for other rivers in the region.
Further south near Coffs Harbour, a high tide is likely to hit at 10.30am.
The weather bureau has predicted possible flooding for low lying areas in the North Macksville areas.
