Resident Evil Village Under Fire For Stealing Monster Designs

Resident Evil Village Under Fire For Stealing Monster Designs If you picked up Resident Evil Village last week with the hope that Capcom had upped the ante as far as the scares go, you might’ve been a bit disappointed. Indeed, producer Tsuyoshi Kanda has stated in the past that folks will find the series’ eighth major installment to be less terrifying than the previous outing, a change that was necessitated by feedback from those who spent considerable time with Resident Evil 7. RE7 “too scary to play,” and so Capcom toned things down a bit for  Village in an effort to make “something that anybody can feel comfortable jumping in and playing.” That being said, the game certainly has its fair share of scares and terrifying monstrosities for you to battle against, but some of them may have been stolen from elsewhere. Or so says filmmaker Richard Raaphorst.

Resident Evil Village monster 'plagiarised' from Dutch filmmaker, he claims

Resident Evil Village. Richard Raaphorst, director of the 2013 horror film Frankenstein’s Army, has published a LinkedIn post with pictures of the film and game for comparison. “In 2013 I directed my film Frankenstein’s Army,” he writes. “It’s a crazy monster movie filled with my own creature designs, one of which has been used – completely without authorisation or credit in the newest Resident Evil game.” The Resident Evil Village monster in particular is a mini-boss character that comes about two thirds into the game. Within Heisenberg’s factory – itself a scientific Resident Evil twist on the Frankenstein story – Ethan is attacked by Sturm, part-man part-machine with a propeller for a head.

Film director says Resident Evil Village used his monster designs

Published on 11 May, 2021 The director of the 2013 found footage horror film Frankenstein s Army has accused Capcom of using one of his monster designs in Resident Evil Village. I won t say too much more before the cut, because there are big spoilers for the game (and the film, I guess) in this post. But I will say: I did a little giggle when I saw the monster. I m sorry, maybe it s very scary with more context around it. You tell me Resi players and Frankie s Army watchers: do these beasts give you The Fear? This poor man clearly got his head caught in a propeller and he just needs some help.
