City of Elyria responds to no-confidence vote in fire chief

The City of Elyria said in a Dec. 17 statement it is continuing to review a list of grievances from Elyria Firefighters Local 474 following a vote of no-confidence in Elyria Fire Chief Carl Mack. On Dec. 16, the Office of the Mayor & Safety Service Director received an official letter detailing the Dec. 3, 2020, Elyria Firefighter IAFF Local #474 vote of no confidence in Fire Chief Carl Mack. “Union grievances, as well as general personnel matters are reviewed with the utmost seriousness, diligence, and timeliness needed to ensure that all issues are understood, but appropriate solutions can be determined with necessary parties involved, said Ren Flanders, chief of staff to Elyria Mayor Frank Whitfield.  

Lorain mental health experts encourage people to seek help if needed

There are resources to help people struggling with anxiety and depression and their families, as the holiday season arrives in the novel coronavirus pandemic, local experts said. Representatives from counseling and mental health agencies gathered Dec. 12 for Families and Wholeness, a free event held at Church on the North Coast, 4125 Leavitt Road, Lorain. That church opened its sanctuary to allow for safe distances between people as a precaution against COVID-19. The goal was “empowerment for the entire family,” by bringing attention to causes of mental health problems and possible solutions. - Advertisement - The speakers were passionate about encouraging people to get help if they need it to deal with anxiety, grief and depression that can lead to thoughts of suicide or worse, actions that lead to self harm.
