On Wednesday morning, a press conference was held on the USS North Carolina’s deck. Speaking, was a coalition of activist groups around the Wilmington area speaking out against the proposed text amendment to a rezoning project that would allow for high-density development on the West side of the Cape Fear River.
A coalition of Wilmington-area groups gathered on the deck of Battleship North Carolina on Wednesday to voice their opposition to a text amendment that would allow a new development to move forward on the Cape Fear River's west bank.
At Thursday's agenda meeting, the New Hanover County Commissioners gave their thoughts on the text amendment proposal for a new zoning that would create a “Riverfront Urban Mixed-Use” on the west bank of the Cape Fear River, allowing much higher density development including a $500 million project that's waiting in the wings.
