Domhnall, older by four years, has emerged as one of the most exciting actors in cinema. He was a Machiavellian office drone opposite Michael Fassbender in the oddball black comedy,
Frank; the nerdy programmer in Alex Garland’s sinister AI drama,
Ex Machina; Captain Andrew Henry in
The Revenant, caught between Leo DiCaprio’s scout and Tom Hardy’s trapper. Perhaps most famously, he was the dastardly General Hux in the
Star Wars sequels. Domhnall (pronounced like “Donald” without the final “d”) played Oldest Son in Darren Aronofsky’s outrageous
Mother!. Brian (“Ian” with a “Br” at the beginning) played Younger Brother.

The show centres on Frank Marron (Brian Gleeson, Peaky Blinders), described as a misanthropic, narcissistic, fantasist in arrested development who thinks the world owes him something.
A struggling musician living in Dublin with his mother (Pom Boyd, Rialto), he discovers his ex-girlfriend (Sarah Greene, The Dublin Murders) has a new boyfriend (Tom Vaughan-Lawlor, Love/Hate) for the first time since they split.
Domhnall Gleeson (Ex Machina) plays Frank s wigman named Doofus, who foolishly thinks they are best friends.
Also part of the cast is Brian and Domhnall s real-life father Brendan Gleeson (The Guard), as well as Pat Shortt (Killinaskully), while Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe) is producing the series.
Domhnall: Yes! Brian?..
Brian: Can I?! Probably not!
Frank Of Ireland is a physical, slapstick comedy about an arrogant fantasist called Frank Maron who s in his thirties at home with his mother. He has a best friend called Doofus, who is too good for him, an ex-girlfriend he hasn t moved on from, and a mother who wants him to move out. That s what he s contending with over the six episodes..
How did the project come about?
Domhnall: Brian and I had worked together on a few things before, and wanted to do something new. Brian suggested we write something funny together to act in, which was a little bit scary. I d written sketches with Michael Moloney over the years, who s a great writer, and the two of us had been looking to do something in longer form. So we all got together.
