Catspaw (Omnivore) Sweet’s big splash was the 1991 LP
Girlfriend, though he’d been active for a good while prior, emerging from the Athens, GA scene with a sound that stood a bit apart from post-Byrdsian collegiate jangle. Instead, he’s generally categorized as a power-popper, but as the release of his 15th album
Catspaw makes clear, with multidecade longevity that’s somewhat unusual for the genre, partly as he’s occasionally branched out a bit, but more because his range of influence is wide and therefore fertile. These dozen tunes are noted as the first time Sweet had played everything on a record except drums- that’d be guitar, bass and vocals, lead and background, plus recording and mixing the set. No one files Cloud Nothings under jazz. Their moments of spontaneity are rare, and even their occasional jams are contained within tightly structured, reliably hooky rock songs. Though itâs not immediately apparent from their best-known work, both Cloud Nothings guitarist and singer-songwriter Dylan Baldi and drummer Jayson Gerycz have experience with the avant garde. Gerycz has been consistently active in noise circles with severalabstractside projects; Baldi came to punk as an avid free jazz listener, searching for a parallel to the extremes he first heard in the holy cacophony of Pharoah Sanders. As Baldi/Gerycz Duo, the longtime collaborators tap directly into their more esoteric roots, abandoning structure with improvised duets consisting of just saxophone and percussion.

party lines. there are some exceptions to that, but by and large the message was, we are going to do it ourselves and without you, and that led to the breakdown. it sure suggests there is no possibility. it seems we have got to this place where we are in a polarized position. i hope not, and i do not think so. all of us to run for reelection had better listen to what the voters are telling us. that is not what they want, and if we see something they do not like, they have the power to change it by electing someone different. i am an optimist by nature. i think if i did not see an opportunity to make things better, i would not want this job, but i do, and i am more hopeful that this will actually occur maybe not immediately. republicans are going to continue to be a disadvantage minorities through 2010, but the pendulum does swing, and hopefully, we will be able to have more of a balanced by partisan result. we will have more of a balanced approach as a result. host: wil
