Guam Restaurant owners anticipate polystyrene foam container ban

Local restaurant owners are preparing to adjust to bring their businesses in compliance with a proposed bill that would ban disposable polystyrene foam containers. Bill 69 would prohibit the distribution and sale of polystyrene foam containers, better known as Styrofoam, which often are used as take-out and delivery boxes by restaurants. It mirrors similar bans passed in several East Coast states, the Republic of the Marshall Islands and the Federated States of Micronesia. If passed, it would go into effect Jan. 2023. Some restaurant owners have anticipated the trend toward eco-friendly disposables on the island and have already begun to make the switch to biodegradable containers.
