Workshop on Saint Joseph set for Feb. 13

Patris corde (With a Father’s Heart), Pope Francis declared 2021 the Year of St. Joseph. The Apostolic Penitentiary has also issued a decree granting the faithful many opportunities to gain plenary indulgences through certain acts and prayers in honor of the saint. The Utah Legion of Mary is encouraging local Catholics to participate in a Feb. 13 workshop to prepare Catholics to consecrate themselves to St. Joseph this year and to prepare for Lent.
The free virtual workshop, which will be held via Zoom videoconferencing, is sponsored by the Legion of Mary (SF Senatus) in collaboration with the Contemplatives of Saint Joseph of the Archdiocese of San Francisco. The workshop will be presented by Father Joseph Homick, COSJ, and will be based on the book

CNA Staff, Jan 16, 2021 / 04:28 pm (CNA).- Catholic bishops have welcomed an Irish government report on 20th century homes for unmarried mothers and babies run by local governments and often operated by religious orders. They have apologized for the harsh treatment of unmarried mothers and their children, calling this a betrayal of Christ.
“Although it may be distressing, it is important that all of us spend time in the coming days reflecting on this report which touches on the personal story and experience of many families in Ireland,” Archbishop Eamon Martin of Armagh said Jan. 12.

A battle for mothers between Roman Catholic and Protestant institutions involved a Kildare priest, according to one of the chapters in the Commission on Mother and Babies report.
The report on the Regina Coeli hostel, set up in Dublin by Frank Duff, founder of the Roman Catholic Legion of Mary organisation said that in 1939 a woman was brought to Regina Coeli that year by a Catholic priest from Kilcullen “who rescued her from Bethany Home.”

Hudson native Brigette (Brown) Peterson was installed as mayor of Gilbert, Arizona, at ceremonies on Jan. 12, 2021. A 1982 graduate of Hudson Catholic High School, Mayor Peterson has been an Arizona resident for the past 25 years. The city has a population of 250,000 and Ms. Peterson received 70,426 votes over her incumbent’s 53,121. She was employed by the State of Mass. and Raytheon Mfg. Co. before moving to Arizona. Long active in the Gilbert community, Mayor Peterson served on the city’s Planning Council for 14 years, and as a Town Councilor for five years. She is the wife of Mark Peterson, who is employed by General Dynamics. “Although we were married in 1995,” she said, “restrictions of COVID-19 kept us from celebrating our 25th anniversary.” The Petersons have a married daughter, Jenn, who resides in Arizona; also two dogs and two cats. The new mayor is the daughter of Hudson resident Barry Bro
