William E. (Bill) Boyd, 98, Santa Barbara, Calif., passed away March 30, 2021, in Goleta, Calif.
He was born Aug. 6, 1922 in Auxvasse to the late Frank and Ruth Boyd, whose families had settled in the area in the early 1800s.
Burial services will be held at the Goleta Cemetery in Santa Barbara, Calif. on Friday, May 21, at 2 p.m.
Bill was raised on the family farm, enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942, trained in the U.S., and arrived in England just before D-Day. He served as a bombardier in a B-17, flew 17 missions over Germany, and was shot down on his 18th mission on July 21, 1944. Bill spent the remainder of the war in Stalag Luft I in northern Germany. He received a Purple Heart due to taking flak in his right shoulder.

Bill passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2021, in his sleep from complications of his long-term battle with diabetes.
William Edward Nelson was born in Marshall on Aug. 8, 1955. He graduated from Balaton High School in 1973 and then attended the University of Minnesota – Morris before returning home to farm with his father. Bill married his wife Cathy Boyd in 1978.
Bill was a farmer his entire life, many of those years with his father, Lennen. He decided many years ago that conservation of land was an important legacy that he could leave for generations to come. Investigators have released new details in the murder of a man found in a burned car in Coweta County.
COWETA COUNTY, Ga. - New details have been released in the murder case where deputies found a body in the trunk of a burned car in Coweta County. Investigators said they have made one arrest and taken out charges against the man who they believe pulled the trigger.
The man investigators are looking for is 28-year-old Garfield Sewell, of Fulton County. Investigators said Sewell has been their number one suspect since the day after the burned car was discovered and that he is on the run.
