Former city councilman in Jackson dies at 85

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) Funeral services are scheduled next week for former Jackson City Councilman Frank Bluntson who died Tuesday.
Bluntson represented the city s Ward 4 from 2005 to 2013, serving several years as president of the council. He was in bad health the last several years and was in hospice, said Jacqueline Amos, longtime family friend and current Ward 4 candidate.
Amos said Bluntson died at home Tuesday, The Clarion Ledger reported. He was 85.
“This is a huge loss,” Amos said. “There’s not many men like him around anymore. He was like a parent to the rest of the community.”

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Eric Bluntson, son of former Jackson city councilman Frank Bluntson, confirms his father died Tuesday afternoon.
He served two terms on the Jackson City Council representing Ward 4. Prior to that, he was a youth court councilor and 5th grade teacher at Mary C. Jones Elementary School.
He’s probably best known as the long-time host of Straight Talk, a community affairs program on WKXI radio.
He was also a well-known advocate for senior citizens, feeding them through a program bearing the name of his late oldest son, Craig Bluntson.
