Pinterest has agreed to pay a former executive $20million to settle a lawsuit after she accused the company of gender discrimination.
Francoise Brougher accused the popular bulletin-board website of paying her less than her male colleagues, leaving her out of decision-making, subjecting her to a hostile work environment and firing her after she spoke out against her treatment.
The French-born Brougher filed a lawsuit against the San Francisco-based firm after she was removed as Pinterest s chief operating officer earlier this year.
Pinterest s agreement with Brougher will see the company pay her $20million and invest another $2.5million to help increase the presence of women and under-represented groups in the tech industry, taking the total size of the settlement to $22.5million.

Pinterest pays $22.5 million to settle gender discrimination lawsuit

Social media firm Pinterest will hand $22.5 million (€18 million) to a senior female executive who was fired after she pushed for equal pay.
Francoise Brougher, the former chief operating officer, brought the gender discrimination case in August after being fired in April.
Details of the settlement appeared in regulatory filings by the tech firm late on Monday.
Brougher said she was also excluded from meetings when she raised concerns about fair renumeration and sexist comments made in the workplace.
Brougher claimed she was paid less than male colleagues and that she was excluded from meetings.
Pinterest admitted no wrongdoing in the settlement. It and Brougher will jointly donate $2.5 million of the settlement to programs supporting women and underrepresented communities in tech.
Brougher and her attorneys will receive $20 million. I m glad Pinterest took this very seriously, Brougher said in an interview with the Times. I m hoping it s a first step in creating a better work environment there.

Popular online bulletin board Pinterest will pay former chief operating officer Francoise Brougher $20 million in a deal reached to settle a gender discrimination suit, a regulatory filing showed Monday.
The settlement includes Pinterest investing another $2.5 million to increase the presence of women and other under-represented groups in the tech industry, according to a joint statement.
“Pinterest recognizes the importance of fostering a workplace environment that is diverse, equitable and inclusive and will continue its actions to improve its culture,” read a joint statement by Brougher and Pinterest.
