A group of armed robbers have invaded the Ode-Remo community in Iperu North Local Government Area of Ogun State, a residential area for students of the Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade, and killed one of the students, identified simply as Segun. It was learnt that the community had been at the mercy of the robbers lately. During the recent invasion, the thieves shot sporadically and entered into students’ hostels to cart away their belongings, molest some female students, and also shot at others, among whom was Francis Dwumfour, leaving him in a critical condition.
Students of the Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade in Iperu North Local Government Area of Ogun State are set to protest against continued armed robbery incidents in their place of residence in recent times. The aggrieved student made this known in a flyer obtained by SaharaReporters wherein they slated the peaceful protest for today (Monday, December 4) at the polytechnic administration building. The flyer reads: “Everyone Must leave their classes Peacefully by 10 am and march to the Admin building. PEACEFUL PROTEST WALK TO THE ADMIN BUILDING.”
The management of the Gateway (ICT) Polytechnic, Sapaade, Ogun State, has shut the institution for two weeks due to continued armed robbery attacks on the students’ hostels. This was contained in an internal memo signed by the Acting Registrar of the Polytechnic, J. O Popoola, while announcing that all physical lectures had been suspended. The memo reads “I have the directive of management to inform all students in the polytechnic that all physical lectures have been suspended on campus for the next two weeks with effect from Monday, 4th December, 2023.
