Adela (“Laddie”) Elwell passed away on December 27, 2023, at the age of 94, shortly after the death of her husband, James (Jim) Elwell, and following an extended period of time in home hospice. She left this world as she had lived it, with peace and grace.
James (Jim) Halsey Elwell, age 98, died peacefully at home on October 2, 2023. His last few years were spent living in Eagan with his wife, son, and daughter-in-law, but home was really Bemidji where he had taught geology at Bemidji State University, was an active member of the Mississippi Headwaters Audubon Society, supported the Neilson Spearhead Center, judged regional and state science fair papers, was an enthusiastic supporter of the Harmony Food Co-op, attended Paul Bunyan Playhouse shows, and, closest to his heart, was instrumental in the formation of the Headwaters Science Center (HSC) and its operation for many years.
